…a little about Berna at Arbutus Vacation Home Watch Services, Nanaimo BC

Berna was born in The Netherlands in 1972 and immigrated to Canada with her parents and sisters at the age of 3.

Her family started homesteading on a few acres out in Yellow Point near Ladysmith, British Columbia on the East Coast of Vancouver Island.

Berna’s Dad, Hank, always wanted a boy and Berna was it! She spent every day watching and learning from her father on their 3 acre farm…. from home building/additions, barn building, tending vegetable gardens, landscaping and all general property maintenance, she did it all!

After graduation Berna traveled back to Holland for school, but realized after a year long stay, that she belonged in Canada.

In 2002 she married her wonderful, supportive husband Steve and was shortly thereafter blessed with her two boys Seth and Avin.

Berna has had many jobs before starting Arbutus Home Watch including; Tree planter in the interior and coastal mountains of BC, Grounds Keeper/Landscaper in a popular Nanaimo campground, Kitchen worker and Housekeeper/Maintenance Head in a retirement facility.

The last 6 years as a maintenance worker have taught her many useful skills as well as building a solid connection with reputable contractors all over Vancouver Island.

Always wanting to learn and challenge herself, Berna started Arbutus Home Watch after noticing a need for scheduled home inspections for all those “snowbirds” that winter down south year after year.

Now with over 10 years experience to the home watch services, Berna looks forward to building a strong reliable business that all her clients can count on whether they are new home owners or vacationers.

“We have complete confidence and no reservations in leaving our home and garden in Berna’s capable hands when we are away.”
